Project-based learning

Actually,I have heard previously about PBL.However, this time I acquired a deeper knowledge on PBL.I really think that PBL is a great teaching and learning approach because it improves students'long term retention of knowledge. That is because when students know that learning or gaining knowledge will help them to deal with real world problems, they have the feeling that they are learning something useful. This teaching method helps students to make real life connections with the school material increasing both their motivation and collaboration. From what I have read and understood is that there are some important steps and procedures we should take into consideration in order to have a proper utilization of PBL in our future classrooms. Firstly,I think that we should prepare our students on this approach. It's not appropriate to use PBL without our students having some preliminary practice. This means that students should have a purpose to research.I guess that exposing students...

Flipped Classroom

When I learned about flipping teaching and learning,I found this model very effective. That is because this model brings a change not only to students (who are used to get the content in class and then work on problems at home),but also to us (future teachers).By using this model, teachers are no longer at the center of the lesson, but act as facilitators, guides and resources. This makes students shift from being passive learners to active ones. They become familiar with the material outside the classroom and then they apply what they have learned in class through different types of activities.Another great advantage of this model is that students personalize their learning because they are given as much time as needed to grasp the content represented to them. For example, they may watch a video, pause it and then re-watch it again.Even when students have not studied the material before, the teacher may use the students who have studied the  material before to help those who have not. This ...

Constructivism

What does constructivism mean? Do you guys remember the way you learned when you were in primary or secondary school?I remembered that all teachers had the same approach of teaching. They all entered the class, asked some students about the previous lesson and then they explicitly stated:''Now,I am going to explain the new lesson to you.Teachers were all the same just because they shared a common approach of teaching. They would just give us information and then ask us to reproduce that information. The only teacher who was different was my high school English teacher. He didn't use to ask us to repeat text book information or list grammatical rules, but would make us discover rules, involve us in group working and each one of us had his own portfolio where we used to keep our own creative projects. He used peer-editing,peer-feedback and onced we learned vocabulary road words going to the road and observe things in practice. We were very involved in the class and we were all the ...

Multiple Intelligences,Multimedia

As soon as I was introduced to Multiple Intelligences during the lecture, what came into my mind was only IQ testing. At the same time,I was trying to find out which of the intelligences I possessed.Actually,my prior knowledge on multiple intelligences was that there are only eight intelligences and each person possesses only one of them because intelligence is our intellectual potential developed at birth, which can be measured and cannot really be changed.Surprisingly, all these characteristics of intelligence were part of the traditional view of intelligence. The key difference between the traditional view of intelligence and Multiple Intelligences theory helped me to clarify and more importantly,to re-evaluate my knowledge on multiple intelligences. I have never heard of Gardner's theory on multiple intelligences and what fascinated me of his theory was his claim that we all possess the different types of intelligences, which can either be reinforced or just disregarded and weaken...
