Last Friday Conference

Well, last week my topic was on the importance of cooperation and I referred to the cooperation regarding the conference. I want you to believe me that even though I was not one of the presenters,I felt very enthusiastic and happy that everything was more than fine.Izabeta and Eva amazed the audience with their Interactive PowerPoint presentation and on the other hand Kleant and Hedera attracted the audience with their presentation about the English-Albanian Taxi Driver's Dictionary.Even the two other girls Klementina and Dajana, from group F did a great job with their presentation about the Drink English App. Our professors were more than glad to see that their previous or current students had cooperated with one another in order to come with these two great projects. For those who know teacher Brunilda Kuqi I want to share with you the fact that she was very enthusiastic and congratulated me on our great job.She also told me that the new rules we had created for the song of Dua Lip...

Why is cooperation so important?

I know we have discussed about cooperation before and we have also had a lecture on cooperative learning. However, what I really want to share with you is the fact that I am experiencing the great benefits of cooperation all these days. It's good when you have somebody with whom you change ideas and thoughts. You want a partner even to listen to what goes on in your mind and give you just a little hint to improve your ideas especially when you have to complete a task, finish a project or just make an important decision. We have actually been discussing the benefits of cooperation in the classroom, but I believe that if we (as future teachers) really struggle hard and promote cooperation among students we are offering them great possibilities to leap at and improve themselves.Promoting cooperation in the classroom will subconsciously and continually help your students to cooperate even outside the classroom. Aren't we actually helping each other even outside the classroom?Well,I have...

The importance of reducing teacher talking time

Today all we hear is about pair work or group work, student involvement in the learning process. So,why reduce teacher talking time(TTT)? First,if students are left out of involvement, they will definitely lose interest, become bored etc.Just think about those times when your teacher talked all the time and didn't allow you to speak at all.I personally remember my High school Literature teacher who used to speak 100% of the time. There was no time for us to speak.Even when she asked us about something, the answer was again provided by her.We not only got bored during literature classes, but even hated literature because we thought that it was extremely difficult.Of course,if you don't talk, exchange ideas with your peers or with the teacher, how can you expect yourself to learn? Now, just imagine yourself teaching some grammar rules. If you talk all the time,I am sure that however excellent your explanation may be,you're on the verge of losing students' interest and make the ...

Interactive PowerPoint

Interactive PowerPoint Well,I really think that all of us have learned a lot about interactive PowerPoint. It was such a great experience working on a project of this kind and I think that we all did great on our day of the presentation during the lecture on 20 th May.I wanted to write about this topic not only because I’ve learned a lot about interactive PowerPoint, but even because I think that this is a great way to enhance students’ learning and engage them more in the learning process. We have seen so far students who have applied all the great things we learned about interactive PowerPoint in their presentations as ‘teachers’.We are all witnesses of how engaging and appealing was their way of teaching because of using interactive PowerPoint.                                        ...

Webinars

What if one day in my future career as a teacher I don't want to go to work and teach? What if I am tired of trying to manage my classroom and keep students engaged?Well, the answer is ''use webinars''.I could use webinar software to record my lecture and then 'teach' when I'm sleeping like a log.In that case students can send me questions they may have on the lecture via email.I can record another lecture on students' questions and post it online. Another type of webinars is live webinar. You can have an instant interaction with your students.Actually, webinars enable two way communication. You can ask your students and they may ask you back as well.In case of this type of webinar, the presenter gives the attendees the opportunity to ''raise their hands'' by clicking a button that will notify the instructor or attendees just type the question in to a chat box. When I was watching the first video I remember that the presenter was constantl...

Project-based learning

Actually,I have heard previously about PBL.However, this time I acquired a deeper knowledge on PBL.I really think that PBL is a great teaching and learning approach because it improves students'long term retention of knowledge. That is because when students know that learning or gaining knowledge will help them to deal with real world problems, they have the feeling that they are learning something useful. This teaching method helps students to make real life connections with the school material increasing both their motivation and collaboration. From what I have read and understood is that there are some important steps and procedures we should take into consideration in order to have a proper utilization of PBL in our future classrooms. Firstly,I think that we should prepare our students on this approach. It's not appropriate to use PBL without our students having some preliminary practice. This means that students should have a purpose to research.I guess that exposing students...
