Flipped Classroom

When I learned about flipping teaching and learning,I found this model very effective. That is because this model brings a change not only to students (who are used to get the content in class and then work on problems at home),but also to us (future teachers).By using this model, teachers are no longer at the center of the lesson, but act as facilitators, guides and resources. This makes students shift from being passive learners to active ones. They become familiar with the material outside the classroom and then they apply what they have learned in class through different types of activities.Another great advantage of this model is that students personalize their learning because they are given as much time as needed to grasp the content represented to them. For example, they may watch a video, pause it and then re-watch it again.Even when students have not studied the material before, the teacher may use the students who have studied the  material before to help those who have not. This increases students' collaboration. They apply their own knowledge working together because it's easier for them to work in groups.
I am very excited to make use of this model with my future students.First,I think that we should use this model when we have a purpose for using it and not just because it will bring a change to our classrooms.Secondly,we should determine what we will do before, during and after the lesson. For example,we may create a video for our students and they watch it before the classroom. Then,we may have students work on a task during the lesson and then they may do a project as an after lesson activity. When deciding to flip the classroom we should also think about the way we will use the model. There are two different forms of flipped  classrooms. The first is having flipped lessons stand alone,so that students learn the content presented to them and then they demonstrate the knowledge through a project before moving to the next concept. This may be used for example, when a single lesson is difficult,so students should practice it immediately. The second form is when we have students progress through a series of lessons and then they will be able to apply what they have learned using a project or any other assignment. This may be used for example,in cases when we see a connection between lessons.
Another important aspect to take into consideration when applying this model is to pay attention to the language we will use in the materials we give students before the lesson. The language should be understandable and clear. We should also be careful with the materials we will use with students. For example, when using videos, make sure that all students have internet access at home.I think that talking to students' parents may be of help because parents will give the family gadgets to their children when they know that their children will use them for learning purposes.
When students don't have the opportunities of using the internet at home,we may give them printed versions. Moreover, the materials we choose to give students prior to the in-class discussion of the material shouldn't be very long because this may put students off dealing with the material at home.
I believe that we should make students accountable for what they have learned and not activating only those students who have grasped the material. We should be there available to help students when they need us.For example, when any of the students have not watched the material before,we shouldn't lecture for the second time, but give them the opportunity to study the material in class, help them understand the material or use other students as ''teachers''.
Actually, there are so many advantages and ways of applying this model in the classroom that I really advise you to use it in your classes with your future students.Of course, you should consider may aspects such as;students' internet access, the language, the length of the material and so on.I think that this model may be very effective when utilized properly.

Thank u for your attention!I hope u really enjoyed it.

  1. I enjoy each of your posts Suela!
They are a little bit long but very reasonable. I like that you have provided examples for each of your explanations. I would like to emphasise the “printed version” of the lesson since I find it a good solution to me and to all the other students who do not possess a PC.
You have also emphasised the fact that this method allows students to reflect more on the topic since they have more time to do so.
Thank you Suela and Keep going!

What I find more I is the last part when you have explained what to do if a student hasn't understood the lesson.

  9. I felt the same way as you Suela when I first learnt about Flipped Classroom and I really likee your post.
Even the ones who know nothing of this topic would learn something after all . You have mentioned advantages and the best ways for a teacher so as to organize a classroom as such. The idea of printed versions is awesome too , it somehow flipps us to the way we get our lectures too.
All in all , I find this method really effective by the way you've described it.
    Good job as always !

  10. I like way how you have written your post. You have provided us with advantages of using flipped classrooms in our future classes. I do agree with you when you say that to make this method effective you should use it in a right way. This is a good method but you have to be carefull when you apply it, just as you have mentioned above.

  11. It is good to know that you intend to use it purposefully rather than making some fancy usage of the internet.

  12. Sui you always share thoughtful ideas.
I loved the statement you metioned at"firstly..." the idea you meant was not using flipped classrooms for the sake of using them ,but for a certain educational purpose. That's a good thought.
The fact you have accounted for problems like (Ss internet connection, materials' length) makes your work more realistic which I really like as you are positioning yourself in the shoes of a future teacher
