Why is cooperation so important?

I know we have discussed about cooperation before and we have also had a lecture on cooperative learning. However, what I really want to share with you is the fact that I am experiencing the great benefits of cooperation all these days. It's good when you have somebody with whom you change ideas and thoughts. You want a partner even to listen to what goes on in your mind and give you just a little hint to improve your ideas especially when you have to complete a task, finish a project or just make an important decision. We have actually been discussing the benefits of cooperation in the classroom, but I believe that if we (as future teachers) really struggle hard and promote cooperation among students we are offering them great possibilities to leap at and improve themselves.Promoting cooperation in the classroom will subconsciously and continually help your students to cooperate even outside the classroom. Aren't we actually helping each other even outside the classroom?Well,I have constantly heard from our classmates a very common phrase"If u need help,do not hesitate to ask me".That phrase makes you feel great because there are people who really respect and worry for you.I truly believe that students learn better when they ask each other. We should help students to understand that they should not be ashamed to ask when they need help because that's the first step of learning.I am sorry to say that when I was a pupil myself,my teachers would not really appreciate it when we asked for help.I guess we should change that fear of being judged by the teacher.I am emphasizing that because if teachers judge a student for asking for help then he/she should not expect his students cooperating with one another. We are models for our students.
I have heard that individual tasks are better than group works.I am also in favor of individual tasks, but I am using cooperation here not only in the sense of group work. You may cooperate even when you do not have a group or pair work to do.Cooperation facilitates the process of learning. That is one of the biggest benefits of cooperation in the classroom and outside it.I said at the beginning that I am experiencing the benefits of cooperation these days because I have my '20 minute teaching experience' this Tuesday and I have been working with my friend Fatjona in order to get prepared. We have still a lot of work to do,but because we are together we are getting the best ideas from each of us.That's the magic of cooperation. You work together, but with a shared responsibility. We should help even our future students to remember that important rule:'A team work, but a shared responsibility'.
That's what we are doing even with the project for the 2nd Junior Conference. We are helping each other to finish what we have to do and we are also learning a lot from one another.Cooperation is also helping us to improve our interpersonal skills. It's more than just communicating with your friends. It's more about learning how to ask for something and when to ask or intervene to help.
Well, I'd better put an end to these thoughts because there are a lot of things to say when I refer to cooperation.

Thank u for your great patience!!

  4. I totally agree with what you wrote and especially when you talked about your teacher. I do believe that asking someone for help is the best thing we can do and we should not be afraid to ask when we don't know something because it doesn't mean that we are stupid or I don't how to call it but it means that we need other opinion too.

  8. And what would we do without your cooperation in these posts..hahahah
I really like the approach you have given to cooperation because you haven't related it only with group work , but also working in pairs , as you said.
Knowing the benefits of cooperation is what really helps in these situations.
    Thanks Suela !
